The Milton Theatre's Elf Run Sets the Pace for Milton's Holidays This Year

  • November 5, 2026

Each holiday date on Milton's community calendar this year falls on a day the Milton Theatre also has a show. The theater's mainstage production of Elf The Musical opens Thursday, Nov. 19, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 13. That run covers Light Up the Park, the Christmas Parade and the Holiday House Tour. After Elf closes, the theater fills the next week with holiday concerts. The town's last holiday concert of the year is on a Saturday when the theater has a show that afternoon.

So downtown won't have quiet event nights this season. Every night the town has planned shares the streets and parking with a theater audience, and on two Saturdays that audience comes twice.

A run of nearly four weeks, with doubled Saturdays

The Milton Theatre's event calendar lists Elf on Nov. 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28 and 29, and again on Dec. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. Evening shows have doors at 6:30 p.m. and curtain at 7:30 p.m. Matinees have doors at 1 p.m. and curtain at 2 p.m. Four Saturdays have both a matinee and an evening show: Nov. 21, Nov. 28, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12. Tickets for the opening dates are listed at $43.57 to $53.25. The Nov. 21 matinee already carried a "low ticket alert" on the theater's site.

The doubled Saturdays matter most. On those days the theater lets out an afternoon crowd and seats an evening crowd only a few hours later. Two of them, Nov. 28 and Dec. 12, are also the town's busiest holiday days.

Where the town's dates fall on the theater's calendar

Date Community event Time and place Also at the Milton Theatre
Sat., Nov. 28 Light Up the Park 5:30 to 7 p.m., Milton Memorial Park, Chandler Street Elf matinee and evening show
Wed., Dec. 2 Milton Christmas Parade 7 p.m., listed by the Milton Fire Department Elf
Sat., Dec. 12 Milton Holiday House Tour, with the Holly Festival Tour 2 to 6 p.m. Elf matinee and evening show
Sat., Dec. 19 Sounds of the Season concert 7 p.m., Goshen United Methodist Church Sinatra's Christmas with Tony Sands, 2 p.m.

Nov. 28, when the park hands off to the theater

The Town of Milton's events calendar lists Light Up the Park on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Milton Memorial Park on Chandler Street. The town also counts it among the special dates in its 25th-anniversary Concerts in the Park schedule, so the lighting belongs to the same series that ran Wednesday nights in the park starting May 20.

The timing is tight. Doors for the evening Elf open at 6:30 p.m., while the park event is still going. The park program ends at 7 p.m., half an hour before the curtain. The afternoon Elf audience will have left by then, but the park and theater crowds will cross paths downtown for most of the evening. With a ticket for the 7:30 show, you can see the lights go on and still make your seat, but it will be close.

Dec. 2, a parade on a show night

The Milton Fire Department's calendar lists the Milton Christmas Parade for Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. That Wednesday also starts the second half of the Elf run. The theater lists a performance that day, and shows follow every day through that Sunday, Dec. 6.

A weeknight parade is usually the easiest holiday event to fit into a regular week. This year it falls in the middle of a five-day stretch of shows. That makes Dec. 2 one of the few weeknights this season when two separate crowds come downtown on the same evening.

Dec. 12, the busiest Saturday of the season

The Women's Club of Milton holds its annual Milton Holiday House Tour on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 2 to 6 p.m., "rain, shine or snow," according to the Cape Gazette's announcement. This year's tour includes nine homes decorated for the holidays and three historic public buildings. The paper describes homes with Native American artifacts, antiques from the 1800s and houses built with hand-forged nails, in buildings dating from the 1870s to today. For comparison, the 2025 tour included seven homes, a local bank and an aircraft hangar, along with the Milton Historical Society and Museum, Milton Town Hall and the Milton Arts Guild.

Advance tickets went on sale Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Mercantile at Milton and at Lewes Gourmet in Lewes. Day-of tickets will be sold at the Women's Club bake-sale table inside the Milton Fire House during the Holly Festival, and at the Mercantile at Milton and the Milton Historical Society and Museum. The Cape Gazette notes that people who reserve tickets and then can't attend are asked to call so the tickets can go to another buyer. Tour proceeds fund the club's scholarships for graduating students who live within the Milton ZIP code. Details are on the Women's Club of Milton's site.

Dec. 12 is the last doubled Saturday of the Elf run. The 2 p.m. matinee starts when the tour opens, and the 7:30 p.m. show starts 90 minutes after the tour closes. Tour guests, Holly Festival visitors and two theater audiences will all be downtown on the same afternoon and evening. No other day this season puts that many people in town at once.

The parking rules for those Saturdays changed in June

These overlapping days are the first holiday season under Milton's new parking setup. On June 8, 2026, the town opened a public parking lot at the corner of Union Street and Magnolia Street. At the same time, it went back to enforcing the two-hour limit on designated on-street spaces in the downtown business district, under Town Code Chapter 209. In the Town of Milton's press release, Town Manager Kristy Rogers said the limits "help keep downtown accessible and vibrant, especially during peak business hours and community events." The release says signs are posted throughout downtown.

Two hours covers a quick errand. It may not cover a house tour that runs four hours, or an afternoon that goes from the tour to the Holly Festival to an Elf show. If you plan to spend most of Dec. 12 or the evening of Nov. 28 downtown, the Union and Magnolia lot is the option made for long stays. Check the posted signs before leaving a car on the street.

After Elf closes, the theater keeps going

Elf ends on Sunday, Dec. 13. That same day, the theater also hosts a Polar Express Pajama Party! & Film Screening at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Earlier that week, on Wednesday, Dec. 9, Cartoon Christmas Trio plays at 7 p.m. alongside the Elf run. After closing day, holiday shows run there almost every day for the next week:

  1. The Nutcracker Suite by Delmarva Big Band, Monday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m.
  2. Chesapeake Silver Cornet Brass Band Holiday Concert, Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m.
  3. Twelve Twenty Four – A Holiday Rock Concert, Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 3 and 7:30 p.m.
  4. A Not-So-Silent Night with Mama's Black Sheep, Regina Sayles and Colleen Clark, Thursday, Dec. 17, at 3 and 7:30 p.m.
  5. Slay Belles: A Holiday Drag Show, Friday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
  6. Sinatra's Christmas with Tony Sands, Saturday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m.
  7. Holiday Tea: Interactive Live Show, Sunday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m.
  8. Milton's Merry Melodies: A Hometown Holiday Cabaret, Sunday, Dec. 20, at 3 and 7:30 p.m., and Monday, Dec. 21, at 2 and 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 19, the town holds its own event that evening. The Sounds of the Season concert starts at 7 p.m. at Goshen United Methodist Church. It's the last special date on the town's anniversary concert schedule. The Sinatra matinee starts five hours before the concert, so Dec. 19 can be a 2 p.m. show followed by a 7 p.m. concert, with a gap the earlier Saturdays don't have.

The cabaret on Dec. 21 is the last holiday show on the theater's calendar. For more on how Milton's evenings have expanded beyond a single anchor, see our earlier look at Milton's nights out. For the town itself, start with our Milton neighborhood page.
